Daniel ducked another spear thrown into the tree beside him and began muttering to himself.
Usually he wasn't worried about his safety since there were really
only two ways to kill him, but the crude weapons whizzing by him were wooden and one had slightly grazed his chest, nearly giving him a heart attack.
He looked at the fiercely concentrating blonde beside him. It had nearly given her a stroke, too. Daniel found himself noticing how deeply blue her eyes were and shook his head to clear his mind of
irrelevant thoughts as Sam brought her gun up, obviously expecting to have to return fire. Daniel gritted his teeth at the stupidity of the situation. This was not supposed to happen.@~~~{{`~~~~~'}}~~~@ Sam watched Daniel turn white as a spear went too close for comfort. Good, she thought. It was about time it sunk in that he was in danger. Twice now, he'd
jumped out, trying to explain the misunderstanding...as if nothing would actually hurt him. It never made sense to her how he could believe that
when he was almost constantly hurt, battered, and abused. Sam shook her head to clear her mind of irrelevant thoughts as the spear throwing picked up in intensity. She smiled a bit at the Colonel's
customary grumbling, but waited for his signal before opening fire. They really didn't want to hurt any of the scared warriors, but they weren't going to allow themselves to be killed over a simple
mistake, either. @~~~{{`~~~~~'}}~~~@ Jack looked around, grouching
out loud, but mentally cataloguing possible exit vectors as well as looking around for anything they could use to increase their advantage.
He felt the dirt under his feet shift a bit as Teal'c ducked down beside him. Quickly, he glanced over to make sure the arm wound that his friend had suffered during the beginning of the barrage didn't
need immediate attention. The Jaffa caught his eye and nodded to assure him before turning his attention back to the fifteen youths who seemed to have an endless supply of sharp wooden sticks. Jack
growled as another one nearly hit Daniel and watched his second-in-command push Daniel to the ground to avoid him catching the spear in his leg as it skimmed a ragged tear along her pack.
He caught his breath and heard Teal'c do the same. If she hadn't insisted on wearing that heavy pack, her back would be ripped instead. Jack shook his head to clear his mind of irrelevant thoughts and
concentrated on the here and now. The level of spears had lessened and finally stopped. Jack sighed in relief, hoping that meant they were going to go chop wood to reload and they could get the doctor
in the interim. He smiled a bit at the thought knowing they wouldn't be that lucky, but what the heck...a guy can dream. "Are they done?" He quickly and abruptly shushed Daniel,
concentrating and watching Teal'c for any indication he heard something Jack didn't. @~~~{{`~~~~~'}}~~~@ Teal'c listened intently for footsteps, but heard nothing. He could only deduce that the natives were silently standing still, waiting for SG-1 to take action.
He shook his head at O'Neill's inquiring look and noted the his friend's tightening lips as a sign that he understood how dire it could become if the young men were simply lethally quiet when they moved.
That would mean an attack could come at any time. Teal'c looked over and caught the looks between Capt. Carter and DanielJackson. He berated himself for his maudlin thoughts and tuned his body to the
battle that was undoubtedly going to take place. @~~~{{`~~~~~'}}~~~@ Jack listened a little longer and then motioned Daniel to toss his floppy hat.
It had barely left Daniel's hand before a knife ripped through it, sticking it to a tree. Jack sighed. Of course they had knives. They probably had canons, flamethrowers, and tanks, too.
@~~~{{`~~~~~'}}~~~@ "Colonel!" Jack tensed, hearing
Fraiser's voice, cursing himself again for agreeing to have her accompany them on this mission. "Doc?"
"Colonel, the natives understand what happened and are willing to let us go home." |
